Late Traveller and facilitator looking forward to sharing my travel journey as I backpack around South East Asia and maybe the world.

Travel?

Alone like me, or with partners or family?

Or even strangers you meet along the way?

What are the pros and cons of each and what problems can you encounter?

Also, what do you discover when travelling in a country for a longer time than a holiday?

Working Abroad

Some countries encourage you whilst others forbid, but is there a balance to be had by incorporating this into your travels?

And do you really need to do it?

I am looking to explore firstly volunteer work, my first was a pepper plantation in Cambodia, with a tea plantation in Thailand and coffee one in Malaysia on the list to do.

Throw in a couple of homestays, family farms, and possibly a stay in Mongolia with a nomad family (living in a yurt) should my money stretch that far.

Of course there is also the possibility that something more permanent comes along that makes me consider my future, but for now I am happy to go where life takes me.

Equipment

This is a series of posts relating to the equipment I have taken with me and what I have needed to buy along the way

Just because you give up on the standard life people are expected to lead, doesn’t mean you don’t need things around you.

It took me a while to figure out what equipment I needed to travel. Also which things were not required. My baggage started with double the weight I have now 18 months on.

I still have important things that maybe I need or rely on more than most but that is what makes us all different.

Follow the pages below to see my likes and dislikes and where appropriate I will give you an explanation for why I choose them.

Accommodation

We all need a roof over our heads. Whether that is a permanent one or as a nomad a temporary one. There are many ways in which to stay whilst travelling, from Hotels and Hostels to Airbnb and Homestays, here I will experience them all.

As i discover all these on my travels i will be experiencing the hospitality of people, cultures and far off countries. Some will be more welcoming than others i suspect but after all, we are on the planet together all trying to live a good life. So i hope to find that goodness in everyone.

Sleeping under the stars

Sometimes all you need is a tent and a sleeping bag, and one of the pluses to travelling around Asia is that the heat is more preferrable to the cold at night.

Companionship can help as well. So during my travels it will a pleasant surprise to share my journey with some friends, both old and new.

Being Nomad

Time to change

The term Nomad as we know it is someone who travels around a lot

The Wikipedia definition is as follows:

nomad ((in Latin) “people without fixed habitation”)[2] is a member of a community of people without fixed habitation who regularly move to and from the same areas, including nomadic hunter-gathererspastoral nomads (owning livestock), and tinker or tradernomads.[3][4] As of 1995, there were an estimated 30–40 million nomads in the world.[5]

In 2017 I became one of these.

During The Covid Pandemic, I had to bunker down in the UK for a short time ( well, actually 2 years) but eventually, I managed to get back to being a nomad once the borders were starting to open.

Finance

Sticking to a budget when you are not sure what is around the corner can be hard and also offer a different perspective on life.

Doing this whilst effectively travelling from place to place with no way of knowing what else life has in store for you can be doubly worrying.
